Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam Proves To Be A Magical Musical Marathon

Jamey Johnson and Alison Krauss brought a country flair to the venue as they kicked off their set with “High Cost of Living,” and brought fans to their feet, singing right along with “When You Say Nothing At All.” George Porter Jr., Eric Krasno, Terence Higgins, Branford Marsalis and John Medeski proceeded to blow the roof off with their set, as Marcus King wasted no time in joining the stage and kicking ass with his incredible guitar talent.

Porter’s deep growling tones enticed the audience to join in during their set, especially when “Sugaree” made an appearance, which brought heavy hitter Bob Weir to the stage. The cheers from the audience deafened the venue, causing an explosion of intense energy in the building. This extended tune was crammed with jammy goodness, with both Krasno and Porter showing off their goods. “Iko Iko” finished off this hot and heavy set, with Weir staying until the set ended.

Acoustic Asheville: Eric Krasno Band

Eric Krasno may be better known as the innovative guitar player for Soulive and Lettuce, but he’s found his voice with his new solo release, Blood from a Stone. Despite having written songs for such artists as Norah Jones and Aaron Neville, Krasno had never sung on any records before.

That newly discovered voice was on display at New Mountain during a recent tour stop. Krasno and his band brought their soulful, R&B sound to an exclusive performance for Xpress and Acoustic Asheville.

Pop-Break Live: Eric Krasno at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey

Guitar gods are called “guitar gods” for a reason — they’re masters at their craft. In early November, one of the true, modern guitar gods of the modern era, Eric Krasno brought his band to The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Krasno is a consumate guitar player, anchoring both Lettuce and Soulive with his blazing blues, jam, jazz and rock sound. He is also a frequent “sit in” guitarist with various jam and rock bands playing throughout the country. He is also a Grammy Award winning producer and performer who has worked with Norah Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, and 50 Cent to Talib Kweli, Aaron Neville, and Allen Stone.

Kras, as he’s affectionately known as, is currently on tour promoting his solo record Blood from a Stone which dropped in summer 2016.

Pop-Break’s Matt Heasley caught Krasno and the band in action.

Love In the Blink Of An Eye

Falling in love can happen in the blink of an eye, and that is exactly what happened to me this past Thursday evening (November 3) at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The culprits? Two bands I had yet to see perform before combining for a night that easily exceeded any of my expectations…

The crowd, now well warmed up, gave a very enthusiastic welcome to the evening’s headliners as they took the stage. The Eric Krasno Band, winding up this leg of the Blood from a Stone tour, wowed the crowd right from the start. Although I am quite familiar with each member of the band individually, I was pleasantly surprised by just how well they all meshed together: Danny Mayer (rhythm guitar), Eric Kalb (drums), DeShawn Alexander (keyboards), and Mary Corso (backing vocals).

Although it was a treat to see each member have his time to shine throughout the evening, for me it was their ability to come together as one, creating a sound that seemed to have the audience hanging on each cord or word coming off the stage. This band is truly a force in the world of live music that should only get better as time moves on. Picking a highlight of the performance is nearly impossible as the set seemed to be one nonstop treat. The album is tight and crisp, and the band keeps that intact while one stage while stretching out the songs and creating a wonderful live experience.

This was one of those nights that remind me of exactly what it is I LOVE about live music: going into the evening having never seen either band live and walking out wondering when the next chance to do so would be. Good music has a way of lifting you up and setting you free, and that is exactly what the evening did for me, sending me home feeling like I was floating on a cloud

Glide Magazine Premiere: Unreleased Title Track 'Blood From A Stone' [Free Download]

Eric Krasno, the co-founder of Soulive and former full time lead guitarist of Lettuce released his third solo album Blood From A Stone on July 8th. Although we’re already familiar with Krasno’s knock it dead guitar tone, this time around Krasno contributes vocals on every track of the self-produced album with the exception of  an instrumental featuring Derek Trucks: “Curse Lifter.”

“My writing partner Dave Gutter and I have been composing songs with vocals for other people for awhile,” explains Krasno in an earlier press release. “So some of the initial ideas that would eventually wind up on the album were written thinking others would sing them, but when they were introduced to different artists, it wouldn’t necessarily work out. Eventually I realized some of the songs we’d been writing were more personal and would be better suited for me to sing.”

Glide Magazine is premiering the rousing track “Blood From A Stone,” (below) which showcases a poignant new side to Krasno’s music, placing himself among the gritty bluesy rock of The Black Keys and other Danger Mouse produced projects.

“I’m excited to finally release the track ‘Blood From a Stone,’ which wound up being used as the title for the album even though we didn’t include the song on it. ‘Blood’ was one of the first tracks I recorded for the project and I loved the energy and grittiness of the song, but when the album was all done, I felt that this track sounded like a seperate piece,” says Krasno. “So I decided to put it out later as its own single. Dave Gutter and I wrote the song on the first day of the sessions in the studio together and then we got heavy into fuzzed out psychedelic sounds, which I thought reflected the imagery and meaning in the lyrics.”
